May 25th Tioga Motorsports Park
May 25th Tioga Motorsports Park it was a long day for the Barton Mototrsports team as we left home at 4 in the morning to be able to arrive in time for the opening of the track. The day started with the drawing of our position for the heat which turn out to be 3rd in the 3rd heat. This was our first time at the track so we weren't sure what to expect. The track and ROC crew were great and treated us well.
When practice started we were able to get out early and the problems started right away. The torque arm broke and cause a tire to go down. With help of a few teams around us we were able to make the repairs and get out before the last practice session ended. Thanks go out to the Zeiner, Staubitz and Hehr teams for their help.
The heats started with Larry in the third position we were able to get a good start and hold off any charges to finish the heat in 3rd and collect the redraw spot. In the redraw we pulled position 6 and which put us on the outside for the start. Not really the place to be with the new pavement. The race started and Larry was able to get down to the inside early and grab 5th before they entered turn 3. The caution would fly early for a couple of spins. By lap 10 Larry was in 4th looking to make a move into 3rd. the 3rd and 4th place cars would get together and push up the track and allow Jackson to get into 2nd. The caution would fly again giving Jackson the outside for the restart. Coming down for the green with Richie Coy and the inside and Larry on the outside they would race side by side for a lap and a half. Going into turn 3 on the second green run Coy would ride Larry high and eventual winner Sherwood would try to slip under making it 3 wide for the lead. Coy turn down into Sherwood and the two came up the track at Larry who had nowhere to go but over the hood of Coy. This ended the day for Barton Motorsports on a sour note.
The plus side of this day was we qualified for the race in a field where 45 cars showed up and only 27 got to start. It made us happy to know we can run up front and look forward to round 2 of the ROC series at Lancaster on July 3rd.
