RACE OF CHAMPIONS MODIFIED TOUR GEARING UP FOR 75 LAP SEASON OPENER AT CHEMUNG
SPEEDROME ON SATURDAY, MAY 1ST.
BINGHAMTON, NY…The 2004 Race of Champions Modified Tour is set to make its
first stop of the new season on Saturday, May 1st at the Chemung Speedrome.
The event will be 75 laps in distance and a big field of the northeast's top
Modified chauffeurs will be on hand. Qualifying heat races are set for 2
p.m.
The Race of Champions Modified Tour events at the Chemung Speedrome always
provide for some of the most competitive racing on the entire tour trail.
Defending Central Region Champion John Markovic will be looking to begin defense
of his title with a solid performance. Markovic is a short track
specialist and used his experience to capture the regional title last season.
It won't be an easy task for Markovic as North Regional and overall series
Champion George Kent has logged a lot of laps at the speedrome. Kent has a
number of victories at the speedway as is always a pre-race favorite when the
tour stops at Chemung. In last seasons R.o.C tour stop in April, Kent
edged out Markovic for the victory.
Race of Champions Modified Tour standout Tony Hanbury has been strong at Chemung
in the last stops that the tour has had. Hanbury has won two of the last
three tour races at the facility and was third behind Kent and Markovic in the
spring event last season.
A big field of teams are expected to be on hand for the first of twelve events
on this years tour schedule. A number of new race teams are looking to
make their mark on the upcoming tour schedule as well. This will leave the
"Rookie of the Year" honors up for grabs.
The Race of Champions Modified Tour 75 lapper is set for Saturday, May 1st.
Qualifying heat races are scheduled to get the green at 2 p.m. For
